The Tamesis Dock floating pub. |
It was during a late afternoon wander along the River Thames that I discovered the 'Tamesis Dock' floating pub. Intrigued I stepped aboard for a drink and found it to be cosy and welcoming.
Never a truer word written. |
Much like the TARDIS, from Doctor Who, the 'Tamesis Dock' is a lot larger on the inside than it looks from the outside. Of course, there is seating available on the decks, too, for those warm London days and nights.
Tamesis Dock on the River Thames |
Brief History
The 1930s Dutch barge began life on the continent, working the canals, before being brought to London.
It was then converted into a floating pub and renamed 'Tamesis Dock', which is an ancient, possibly Celtic, name for the River Thames.
Offering food, live music, an entertainment space and free wifi, along with views of Vauxhall Bridge, Tate Britain, Millbank, Thames House and Lambeth Bridge, the 'Tamesis Dock' is a truly unique place for a quiet drink and a bite, while still close to the hustle and bustle of The Unfinished City.
